BLACK FLAME ADVISORY

Welcome!

Black Flame Advisory is a South African Engineering and Project delivery firm.

Welcome

Black Flame Advisory is a South African multidisciplinary engineering, project delivery, and research and development firm. We help clients plan, design, and deliver projects across energy, mining, transport, water, buildings, and petrochemicals — including the shift toward cleaner energy and hydrogen. We offer full EPCM and EPC project support, from the very first idea right through to a finished, working plant.

We work as a true delivery partner. That means we don’t just hand over a design and walk away — we stay involved, coordinating specialists, managing risk, and keeping the project on time and on budget, so our clients can keep running their business without being pulled into the day-to-day detail of construction.

Our team brings together people from very different technical backgrounds — civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and asset management — which means we can take a project from a rough idea on a napkin all the way through to a commissioned, producing asset, without needing to bring in a different firm at every stage.

We also keep a close eye on where our industries are heading. Engineering standards, market conditions, and client expectations all shift over time, and we build that awareness into how we plan and price every project, so clients are never caught off guard.

Who We Work With

Our clients range from large corporates and mining houses to public sector bodies and industrial operators. In most cases, we step in as the Principal Contractor or Management Contractor on a tender — taking responsibility for the whole delivery process and then appointing and overseeing the right specialist contractors to get the work done safely, on time, and to the right quality standard. This model gives clients a single point of accountability, instead of having to manage a dozen different contractors themselves.

How We Work

1. Tender Acquisition

We look for suitable project opportunities, review the scope carefully, and only pursue work where the required capability can be put in place. The aim is not just to win a tender, but to win work that can be delivered well

2. Vendor Selection

We do not allocate contractors simply because they are available. Each specialist is matched to the job based on the scope, technical requirements, site conditions, and the standard of work expected by the client.

3. Project Oversight

Once the work is awarded, we remain close to the project. Black Flame Advisory tracks progress, checks workmanship, follows up on issues, coordinates installation, and manages handover with the client.

4. Closing the Gap

Many projects lose time between award and execution because responsibilities are unclear. We close that gap by keeping commercial commitments, technical requirements, site progress, and reporting connected throughout the project.

What We Focus On

1. Cleaner Energy and De-carbonisation

Governments and industry worldwide have committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, with the long-term goal of keeping global warming below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. That commitment is reshaping how businesses plan and invest. We help clients make that shift without putting the brakes on production or operations.

2. Renewable Energy

Renewable energy sources — solar, wind, and others — regenerate naturally and don’t run out the way fossil fuels do. They’re playing an increasingly central role as businesses plan their energy future, both to cut costs and to meet emissions targets.

We help clients who are considering an investment in renewable energy to understand what’s realistic for their site and their budget. This includes assessing how energy actually flows through the business today, identifying where renewables could be introduced with the least disruption, and building a practical, staged plan to get there — rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.

3. Infrastructure

We think of infrastructure as the basic systems and services that let an organisation or government operate effectively and give the people who rely on it — staff, customers, or the public — a good experience. Reliable infrastructure gives decision-makers the confidence to run their business or their mandate without second-guessing the systems underneath it.

We deliver infrastructure solutions across the following sectors:

  • Energy
  • Mining
  • Transport
  • Water
  • Built environment
  • Petrochemical and asset management

How We Work — Step by Step

We structure every project using the Front-End Loading (FEL) project management model — a staged approach widely used across engineering and mining industries to reduce risk before major capital is committed. Each stage builds on the last, and a client can choose to stop, adjust, or proceed after any stage, giving them control over the project without losing momentum.

  1. Concept study — testing the idea and understanding whether it’s worth pursuing
  2. Pre-feasibility study — narrowing down options and rough costs
  3. Feasibility study — detailed costing and planning, with a bankable version available for clients who need finance or investor sign-off
  4. Detailed design (FEED) — full engineering design, ready to hand to a construction team
  5. Construction and installation — building, installing, and commissioning the finished asset
