Overview
Black Flame Advisory is a South African multidisciplinary engineering, project delivery, and research and development firm. We help clients plan, design, and deliver projects across energy, mining, transport, water, buildings, and petrochemicals — including the shift toward cleaner energy and hydrogen. We offer full EPCM and EPC project support, from the very first idea right through to a finished, working plant.
Mechanical Engineering
We don’t hand you a quote to replace a pump — we ask why it keeps failing. Our work covers plant maintenance, pumps and rotating equipment, conveyors and materials handling, piping, tanks and vessels, and hydraulics. We assess what you’ve got, find the weak points, and advise on where a redesign or an upgrade will pay for itself. When it’s time to execute, we appoint the specialists and manage the job end to end, so you’ve got one number to call.
Civil & Structural Engineering
Civil and structural work gets expensive fast when it’s designed without the rest of the project in mind. Our scope covers structural and civil design, foundations, concrete and structural steel, earthworks, roads and hardstands, and drainage — all coordinated with the mechanical, electrical, and process scope around it, and tested against real site constraints before anyone breaks ground. We advise on where the design can be simplified or strengthened, appoint the specialists to execute it, manage them directly, and stay on the job through to handover
Electrical Engineering
Plenty of plants are running equipment they can’t actually see. Our work covers low- and medium-voltage installations, motor control centres, motors and variable speed drives, instrumentation, PLC and control systems, cable installation and electrical maintenance. We assess what’s installed, identify where it’s underperforming or unsafe, and advise on the upgrades that will genuinely pay off — better control, better data, fewer surprises. We appoint the specialists, manage them directly, and stay on the job through testing, commissioning, and handover.
Control & Instrumentation
Instrumentation and control hardware is only half the job — the other half is the strategy that ties it together. Our scope covers control philosophy, control loop design, and system integration, making sure instrumentation, PLC and SCADA systems give operators one coherent picture of the plant, developed alongside the mechanical, electrical, and civil scope rather than bolted on at the end. We advise on where the control strategy needs to change to match how the plant is actually run, appoint the specialists to implement it, manage them directly, and stay on the job through commissioning and final handover.
